Education Scotland has published a short animation which explains assessment in the context of Curriculum for Excellence.  The unique style used is intended to help practitioners see the connections between the different aspects of assessment, resulting in positive outcome for learners.  
 
Focus on Assessment Education Scotland News
This issue of Education Scotland News has a particular focus on Making Good Assessment Decisions and contains some useful articles on assessing progress and achievement, the Scottish Survey of Literacy and Numeracy, and practical steps to support great learning.

3-18 Literacy and English report published

Education Scotland has published the latest in a series of Curriculum Reviews which are designed to build up a comprehensive picture of how children and young people are experiencing learning in different areas of the 3-18 curriculum across the country.  This report also mentions the role of Gaelic Medium Education in the development of literacy.

 

1+2 Approaches to Reading and Writing 

This third Glow TV session from the modern languages team at Education Scotland will look at Reading and Writing in a 1+2 context.  During the session, you will be given advice on approaches to developing these skills in young learners and how this fits in with the new Experiences and Outcomes at First Level, published at the end of March.  Teachers of Gaelic (Learners) should note that the Gaelic (Learners) programme has always included Experiences and Outcomes at Early and First Levels which should be continued to be used. Sign up today.

 

 
Children are growing up in a multilingual world and the ability to communicate effectively is crucial if they are to play their full part as global citizens. To support the implementation of the 1+2 languages policy, we have organised a national initiative which will culminate in an event at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in September.  The 1+2 Factor is open to all Scottish education establishments and the aim is to showcase the learning and teaching of languages in Scottish schools and encourage the use of digital technology. We are inviting individual classes, schools or clusters to use any of the tools within Glow to create a learning space which will help in the implementation of 1+2.  We are very keen to receive examples of Gaelic Learner and Medium Education for this event and can provide some training for schools to show the different tools available in Glow.  If you are interested in training, please advise us at Inverness@EducationScotland.gsi.gov.uk.
