Scotland’s education inspectorate has published a new report on Gàidhlig Education.
The report, Evaluating the Quality of Gàidhlig Education: actions to raise standards, quality and equity, draws on inspections of Gàidhlig Medium Education and Gaelic (Learners) settings across Scotland.
His Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI) found evidence of high-quality learning in many 3-18 settings, with examples of strong immersion and highly committed staff.
However, the report also highlighted that staffing, curriculum continuity and resources remain fragile in many areas, with secondary education uptake being of particular concern.
Graeme Logan, interim HM Chief Inspector of Education, said:
“Gaelic is becoming a stronger and more visible part of Scotland’s education system. There is clear evidence of high-quality practice and growing ambition across the sector.
To secure and extend this progress, there is a need for well-paced action, especially in secondary education and Gaelic (Learners) pathways. This would allow more young people to continue to learn, use and achieve through Gaelic.”
This report supports meeting outcomes in the National Improvement Framework and the National Gàidhlig Language Plan.
I would appreciate your support in promoting this report. If you use social media, please see HMIE’s new X and Facebook accounts. More detail is below.
I will make the Gàidhlig version of the report available soon. If you, or your organisation, are interested in a roundtable discussion on the report, I can arrange this.
Tapadh leibh is dùrachdan Thank you and best wishes
